(4) Celebration of National Voters Day
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, the Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as 'National Voters' Day'. It was started on January 25th 2011.
New voters, who have attained the age of 18 years, eligible voters would be enrolled on time and handed over their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on January 25 every year at Booth Level. Various programmes like essay competitions and quiz competitions are organised at Booth Level / KMC Ward Level / Borough Level / District Level to felicitate new voters.
(5) Conducting Election
This office functions under direct guidelines and supervision of the Election Commission of India / Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal. Two types of elections are conducted by this office: (1) Elections to the House of the People (Parliament Election) for selection of Member of Parliament in respect of 24 - Kolkata Uttar Parliamentary Constituency and (2) Elections to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly (Assembly Election) for selection of Member of Legislative Assembly in respect of 7 (seven) Assembly Constituencies i.e., 162 - Chowrangee, 163 - Entally, 164 - Beleghata, 165 - Jorasanko, 166 - Shyampukur, 167 - Maniktola & 168 - Kashipur-Belgachhia Assembly Constituencies under Kolkata North Electoral District.
